Small Talk

Has small talk still a social value? Small talk happens less these days, because people are more engaged in texting, phoning or playing on their electronic devices, rather than looking into someones face. By doing so, people repel any action to interact and send the message ”leave me alone”, I’m busy in my own electronic world and don’t want to be bothered.  I find it sad, since I always enjoyed to have a small talk. A smile, a friendly gesture can lead to small talk. Giving and receiving friendliness is for me still a source of rejuvenation. Is our energy drained from being available 24/7? Are we mentally caught in antisocial networks? Doesn’t that leave an emptiness in you? A black hole, a disconnection to the rest of society? Kids grew up without cell phones not too long ago. Companies survived, without torturing their employees or customers by phone. How much can a healthy mind take?

Small talk, it can start with, a smile a friendly gesture, every day. I will stick with it, no matter what advertisers tell me, because it makes me feel good. I cherish my time having the cell phone switched off, because I know, the world will continue to turn. I will nurture my soul by interacting with people face to face. By going out side and feel the weather on my skin. By giving a smile or friendly gesture and enjoy a warm and positive human reaction.
